Drugs and the Brain

چکیده
for other reasons no doubt, the papers will be of unequal value to readers of 'Mental Health'. Paradoxically, those on the basic sciences may be of more use than those on the applied, despite the fact that they are by now three years out of date and that willingness to follow the leads provided into other literature will require a fair degree of sophistication. The other papers have little to say that is new, and do not always base themselves upon references. Their basic approach is certainly sympathetic, but not one that will strike the British reader as particularly revolutionary. Professor Brotman, for example, describing the cycle of 'self-fulfilling prophecy' completed by the problem of drug abuse, concludes that it is time for the purely medical and criminal attitudes to be replaced by a community mental health approach: this, he says, is one that 'views the problem as an interaction between the individual, the drug, and the environment.' There is unlikely to be much quarrel with this point of view in Britain, although accord

Effects of psychotropic drugs on nerve growth factor protein levels in the rat brain
Introduction: Psychotropic drugs exert their effects, in part, by increasing neurotrophin levels in the brain. Nerve growth factor (NGF) protein levels after treatment with only a limited number of psychotropics have been determined. The present study was designed in order to evaluate the effects of acute and chronic administration of different psychotropic drugs on NGF protein levels in fiv...
متن کاملPharmacotherapy to Improve the Acquired Aphasia following Brain Damages: A Review Study
Background & Aim: Using pharmaceutical agents in treatment of aphasia has caught the attention of many neurologists and neuroscientists. This short review study has sought the role of pharmacotherapy in treatment of aphasia, a linguistic impairment after acquired brain lesions. The pharmacological principles and mechanisms related to the effects of drugs used in aphasia rehabilitation are point...
متن کاملDerived Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Addiction Related Hippocampal Damages
The brain is an important organ that controls all sensory and motor actions, memory, and emotions. Each anatomical and physiological modulation in various brain centers, results in psychological, behavioral, and sensory-motor changes. Alcohol and addictive drugs such as opioids and amphetamines have been shown to exert a great impact on brain, specifically on the hippocampus. Emerging evidence ...
متن کاملCommentary: New View on Treatment of Drug Dependence
In the 1960s, discovery of pleasure system (defined as reward system) in the brain that may underlie drug reward and addiction encouraged many scientists to investigate the mechanisms by which drug abuse affects central nervous system function. In this regard, investigators developed several drugs targeting the brain reward system for drug dependence therapy. However, no positive results obtain...
متن کاملCOVID-19 Treatment Options and Their Mechanism of Action up to Now: An Overview of Clinical Trials
Novel coronavirus causes the outbreak of COVID-19. There is still no verified treatment regimen against this novel virus; however, different drugs and compounds have been tested against it. Ample proposals have led to a good understanding of pathogenesis and drug efficacy against the novel virus disease. Excess systemic inflammation, which is described as cytokine storm, in the severe cases of ...
متن کاملA Priori Prediction of Tissue: Plasma Partition Coefficients (Log BP) of Drugs to Facilitate the Use of MLR and MLR-GA Methods
It is important to determine whether a candidate molecule is capable of penetrating the plasma-brain barrier indrug discovery and development. The aim of this paper is to establish a predictive model for plasma-brainbarrier penetration using simple descriptors The usefulness of the quantum chemical descriptors, calculated atthe level of the DFT and HE theories using 6-310* basis set for QSAR st...
